Would you like to be able to exchange more postcards at the same time? If so, then we might have some good news for you!
If we could just choose, we would love to allow everyone to send as many as they wish. However, limits are necessary in Postcrossing to keep the system balanced for everyone and also to keep the project safe. But we know that the current limits are particularly hard on new members who want to get started quickly and must wait for their limits to grow slowly. So, we have been working on a way to allow new Postcrossers to exchange more postcards, while still having the required limits – by adjusting them slightly.
Today we are doing an update on the formula for limits in Postcrossing. From now onwards, the limit for new accounts will start to increase after the first 5 postcards sent (and registered). Afterwards, the number of postcards you can send will increase by 1 for each 10 postcards sent (it was for each 20, so it grows twice as fast!). After the first 35 postcards sent, it increases by 1 on each multiple of 50 postcards sent.
We know this might sound a little confusing, so we made a little graph to explain the difference between before and after. Here it is:
As you see, the limits grow faster initially, allowing the account to reach a more comfortable level sooner.
How does this affect you? If you have sent under 100 postcards so far, you will be seeing an increase on your limit between 1 and 3 extra postcards. But not only new members get to send extra postcards: if you have already sent 100 postcards or more, then you’ll have one extra postcard as well. That’s right! Everyone gets (at least) one extra postcard with these changes – merry Christmas! :).
The limit continues to increase up until 100 traveling postcards – we believe that should be more than enough for everyone. And of course, it is the limit that we are changing – you are free to send any amount you want within your quota. You can learn more about the new limits here.
We are quite excited about these updates and we hope you’ll enjoy these changes. Happy Postcrossing everyone! :)

Thank you so much for setting the limit to 100 - now I will have some time for washing, shaving and eating a bit...
;)
Turray!!!! Thank you very much!
I really love that this website is being continously improved...
Muito obrigado, Paulo!
:)
That's great news - I must admit that I am really impatient to send cards, and so often it takes so very long till they arrive and I get a new address. Thanks for this improvement!
That's great!! Thank you :)
Great idea! I have so many cards in stock I am almost in a position to start a shop, now I can send more. That won't help me of course as I'm a postcard addict and can't stop buying them. Maybe a New Years Resolution to use what I have before depleting the shops. It means more stamps of course but what is life if we can't do the things we enjoy and make others happy.
WOW!!!! I love send card so much!!!!
I almost waiting to send next card and checking website every hour.
It's a great change. Just like a gift for me!!!
Thank you so much!!!!
超開心的啦!!!!
Thank you for the good improvement, this we've been waiting for! So many more people become happy this way. :D
Directly started sending more postcards! Hurray! A nice Christmas gift!
I am SO GLAD!!!!THANK YOU!!!Going to send new cards!!!!
I love it! Thank you...22 cards traveling :)
Good news) Yeah, the new postcrossers are usually eager to send many postcards) Nice for them)
Boa notícia! Em julho terá mais surpresas, como houve esse ano? Abraço
I did not understand. объясните кто нибудь по-русски...
I'm excited as I'm so addicted to posting and receiving mail. My extra 2 are like a christmas present. Thanks Paulo.
Thanks a lot!!! I can send 3 extra cards now. Hurray!!!
Merry Christmas everybody!!!
Increasing the limit is a great idea, but what about the members who are not active any more? One of my cards has been travelling to one lady in the USA, and she has not been logged in for more than 2 months... It is a very sad experience for me to have an Expired card for the first time, though I have sent 79 registered cards to 25 different countries (and what about all the swaps to exotic countries? I can't count them all!..)
Maybe we should make some changes for the inactive members?
Yay! I can send one extra now...a total of 22! Thank you so much Paulo! I find this convenient not just for the beginners but also for existing users whose travelling cards often get stuck :)
This is super news)) Thanks so much!:))
This is a best present on the New Year!!!! Thank you!!!
This is such great new!!! I'm really happy about this!
thank you, thank you, thank you!!! =D
This is a nice Sinterklaas / Christmas* present! and improvement.
* For those celebrating Christmas with gifts.
So amazing, and it is a wonderful Christmas gift for me.
I am really happy.
Thanks a lot.
I approve this message
Such great news for first time Postcrossers ! Merry Christmas everyone.
Thank you! We love you! I remember how eager I was when I first started - wait, I still am eager. :o)
This is really nice for new members! :) I remember how slow it seemed to go in the beginning, when you're all excited to send many many postcards :D
Great news!
That is great news and a huge improvement. It was a big surprise for me! This afternoon I will send even more cards, Hurray!!
I can now send 30 cards at a time :D
Thats fantastic! Keep up the good work!
woohoo, I can send 2 more cards now, great idea!
Wow! Thank you so much. I can't believe the rules have changed (my head is spinning a bit).
I think this adjustment is great!
My thanks go to all those hardworking managing guys!
wow, thats great! thx so much ^^
I love the new limits even if I have not been active on postcrossing for many many months, I do plan to get back into it and am always on the lookout for good cards, but time and finances mean no stamps for me at the moment!
I am new too and had actually 39 cards send, waited for my 40th to arrive - and now this surprise!! Very very good! I sometimes had 5 cards to Russia and I had to wait more than 25 days for registration - that was frustrating!! GOOD NEWS!!
I think it's a great and very fair improvement. Congratulations, Paulo, and thanks for the consultation.
Merry Christmas, everybody!
I got bored one day and calculated how many cards I'd have to send before I was financially unable to support this habit -- that is, how many cards I could keep mailing per day before it became prohibitively expensive. Thanks for helping me reach "Doomsday" faster! LOL. (Merry Christmas, and hooray for graphs!)
Thank you for the gift :))
I think, after a user sent his first thousand, need to limit: only 1 additional postcard on each multiple of 100 postcards sent
+1 more =)
thank you! nice idea
Sweet. Thanks. However I've decided to adhere to my own budget and this means 4 cards per week max. So now I'm constantly under your limit. Which is definitely better than the other way around.
Happy Christmas and postcrossing!
Wow :) this is "Happy Postcrossing"
Thank you!
AAAAH!
oh God! now I'll have to search for a new job with better salary to send more and more :)
thanks for this update, I was waiting for it!
thanks for all the improvements you're doing - i can remember, when the 5 cards at once was still active ;) and as klausdiemaus already said... it's nice to know that there is a limit when you reached 100! thanks for everything!
I am a little confused by this, but I am not a new user so I don't think it will affect me anyways. :P
I'm very happy about it! Hurray!
Thank you very much! :D
COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOl!!!
This is great news for me, since I'm addicted to it. I have lots of cards here at home waiting to be sent. Finally, I'll get rid of some of them. It's the best Christmas present. Better than this only if you send me a postcard Christmas, hehe. Thank you :)
Oooh, I can send 8 postcards instead of 6 ! What a great Christmas present ! Thank you !!
Thank you for a wonderful website and for giving us all an outlet for our postcard sending and receiving passion.
I do not prefer to send postcards to repeated countries. But when I ask another address, suit me to a country which has already sent a postcard (I have sent twice to Russia twice to China and twice to germany). I liked that you help me understand what is going on.
So this is explaining why I can send 11 postcards now :)
A beautiful Christmas present.
Thank you a lot! I have watching for something like this for a long time.
Wat a nice surprise!!! I can sent 3 more cards now! Yoepie! Yeah!!
Thats's really good news. Thank you!!!!
Love the change. I have one extra card to send now. Don't know which I prefer - sending or receiving. I get such fun out of both. Nollaig Shona go gach dúine - Happy Christmas to everybody.
Lovely news... and happy xmas to all postcrossers!!!
Lovely idea, great to encourage new users who might otherwise lose interest early on :-) Merry Christmas Postcrossers!
Thanks Paul, love it - so much fun sending cards, and now I can do more!! Love sending officials and get very excited each time I reach a new limit to send, so thank you for making this one go quickly. Festive Greetings to everyone. THANK YOU.
Great idea!
Good idea and great improvement - thanks for the Christmas present!
Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you!!!!
Nice!
I`m so HAPPY! Thank you!))
Yatta! Love the graph btw!
I love that I can now have more cards traveling at one time! But I am a little confused, because it says
"If you have sent between 100 and 149 postcards, you can send 11 postcards.
If you have sent between 150 and 199 postcards, you can send 12 postcards.
... and so on, in increments of 1 postcard for each 50 you send." But the number of cards traveling at one time stops growing after 100 cards? These two statements contradict each other. Can someone explain?
After nearly 2.5 years of participating in Postcrossing, 13 of sent postcards have expired. On studying the participants' profiles, I conjecture that four of them are active, seven are clearly inactive, one is sporadically involved, and one, I suspect, did not register card because it did not comply with her strict parameters.
I urge Paulo and Team to cull each country's list by eliminating "deadwood." Thank you for managing an admirable project. Why not improve its efficacy by updating member lists ?
Great Christmas present! Thanx a million!
@krdavis; As far as I understand, when you're able to have 100 postcards travelling at the same time, the limit won't increase anymore. So you're not allowed to have 101, 102... postcards travelling at the same time.
What A Surprising Day!
Thanks a bunch! It was a great and pleasant surprise today to see that I can send now two more extra postcards! Hurray!!! :)
Surprising and Thank you so much... New Year gift...
Good thing I stocked up on cards as I came through the Seattle airport yesterday. :)
As a new postcrosser living in Africa, i really needed this improvement. Asante sana! (thank you very much!)
This is great !:D
Just a wonderful gift for the New Year! )))
What a pleasant news! It makes my day :) Thank a lot
Yay! Thanks for this great update, I'm a newbie and being able to send out another postcard has been taking FOREVER. Two thumbs up for the new system.:)
Wonderfull news. Thanks
I was surprised to see I was allowed 8 in stead of 6 cards and I really love it. The postman has to bring a lot of cards now :).
Nice surprise, Thanks, the great thing is I am just under 150 so in about 7 cards I get another card and will be on 14 cards. Yeepee.
Loved the surprise of an extra card, mailed it right away!
This is a great advantage for new members because I was very impatient to send the next card when I was a new member.
Thank you * 100 ! ! !
And as Bob Cratchit says, "Come, let’s raise a toast more pleasing to the whole community. Children! A very merry Christmas to us all!"
A wonderful christmas gift! Thanks a lot!
Thank you for the increase- it is a nice surprise! The more cards I send and receive, the more I love this project!
Thank you for a wonderful Christmas surprise!
Thank you so much! I really like this (improved) feature!!
What a wonderful experience this site has turned out to be. The founders always find a way to improve it. Thank you for the many pleasures each card brings.
Haha it seems that I rolled in at just the right time. I have put 6 postcards on the mailbox so far so I can send up to 6 cards any time!
I think it shouldn't be necessary to delete people who are inactive. I mean, as long as they request adresses (which they only can if their cards arrive) you can't really tell wether someone is being inactive or not.
Nice surprise~
It is quite right!
Oh, what a great idea. Frohe Weihnachten - Happy Christmas.
yeay...i can send two more extra card...super duper happy :)
thank you :)
hoorey! Thank you! i have extra 1 postcard to send!
good improvement for starter. but the system need to clarify active member and non -active members more clearly.
Oooh, that's why I had suddenly one more card in my limit!!! Great!!! Thank you and merry Christmas to you too ;-))
The extra one has already been sent!
love this improvement... No more boring time waiting for my postcards arrive their destination... Thank you.. I love this site... ^_^
Thanks! ;)
This is really great news - even if it doesn't affect me much. But I remember how tough it was to wait and wait and wait when I was new, so I'm happy for all the newbies that their patience isn't being tested as much any more.
I love how you keep improving the site - it's one of the very few things I know where "improvements" always really make things better. :-)
Good news for all starters under 100 sent.
The biggest improvement, seems to me for evryone, if there was a stimulans in the system for members to register cards they receive, now there is none. Well maybe after not registering XXX cards?
Everything is okay for me but I didn't decide on one thing. I sent more than 200 postcards. And I want to send 250 postcards because I can send 50 postcards at the same time. I don't know and I can't decide. Was it true in last system? If it is not new system will be good for me too. If it is not I will be sorry about new system. (:
Thanks for the increase!
@ December. Dont't realy know what you mean, You can sent at the moment in new system 13 cards, or maybe you keep old rights?
My point is, I saw in your profile 4 expired cards, for each one you had to wait 60 days, before you can send another one. And okay, cards can get lost for any reason, but why does the system only put the fine, ( 60 days waiting) exculsively to the sender ( he or she can also be some one not to blame)
The above message is for @ Decemberist and of course evry'one with an interest in this matter.
Happy Xmas to evry'one
@josie
Sure, for now I can send 13 postcards. My point wasn't the expired postcards. I want to say when my 250th postcard arrived I can send 14 postcards. So to the best of my recollection(last system) when my 250th postcard arrived I can send 50 postcards with my travelling postcards(total number is 50). Was it true? Or am I misapprehend?
@Decemberist: With the old formula, at your 250th sent postcards you would be able to send 13 postcards at the same time. But with the new formula, you can send 14. Everyone gets to send at least one more than before with the these changes.
50 is just the interval of sent postcards (200, 250, 300, 350, ...) at which your postcards limit increases (by one).
@paulo
Thank you for the information. I understood now. So, I'm happy too about new system! I was careless I think. (:
Thanks for the increase! Merry Christmas to you and yours!!
You Guys totally ROCK!!! I love it!!! Thanks and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!
a bit late, but really...thank you! Postcrossing rocks my world.
Muito bom. Para quem é de país fora da Europa fica em desvantagem porque o tempo de envio é mais longo... Assim, podemos avançar mais rapidamente no numero de postais enviados. A todos que compõem o postcrossing, meu muito obrigado. *-*
Great news. Thanks!
