The writing prompts are an ongoing experiment that invites postcrossers to write about a different topic on their postcards’ messages every month. These are just suggestions though — if you already know what you want to write about, or the recipient gives you some pointers, that’s great too.
Of all the meals in a day, breakfast has always been my favourite. When I was a kid, it was mostly because of the chocolate milk and bread with marmelada (quince cheese) combo… but as I’ve gotten older, I’ve come to appreciate the versatility of breakfast and experimented with other variations of this meal. So I’m very happy about this month’s writing prompt suggestion by ColorfulCourtney on the forum:
These days, I’m all about coffee and eggs. Omelets, scrambled, fried, poached… anything goes! If we’re feeling especially hungry, I’ll do a big pan of shakshouka and pair it with orange juice from the local farmer’s market. Paulo is a fan of fluffy croissants, but those are reserved for special days! 🙂
What about you? What’s your normal breakfast, and what would you consider a treat? Write about it on your postcards this month and feel free to illustrate it with a little drawing, if you feel so inclined. 🍳
Have a delicious month!

My favourite breakfast is a bowl of cornflakes and some fruit - whatever is in season.
For a special treat I love a full Irish fry with everything except beans as I tend to mess them down my front!!
Scrambled eggs are a treat my husband makes for me from time to time.
My typical breakfast is frozen waffles with syrup.
My favorite breakfast is croissants all the way
for next month, hmmm, how about your favorite animal, and the zoo you like to see them at.
Oh, I do love a fry up, @ned44440! 🤤 I guess I'm more of a savoury breakfast kind of person. And now I'm hungry...
My typical breakfast is: a cup of black coffee, rye bread roll with thin turkey slice and tomato or cucumber slices and an apple or pear..sometimes I eat oat porridge, too with milk.
Oatmeal, sir! And of course coffee with cream)
Mmmm, breakfast my favourite meal. Home it's muesli with yogurt and rye bread with cheese and cucumber, downed with gallons of black tea. When in hotel and especially in a UK B&B, I want to indulge in full English Veggie-style, if possible ;)
Mondays through Saturdays I usually prepare steel-cut oatmeal cooked in unsweetened almond milk with a dash of cinnamon and some raisins. On Sundays, we usually go to one of four local diners (we rotate them on a whim).
Then, I usually have some kind of pancake, Belgian waffle, or French toast. My favorites are Swedish pancakes, Belgian waffles with lemon/ricotta and blueberries, or Belgian waffles with Kiafa cherries. Sometimes I have a Monte Cristo sandwich, sometimes I have bacon or sausage on the side.
Breakfast is my favorite meal, any time of day!
Love breakfast. It used to be eggs but now I have raw vegetables and some hot smoked salmon. Off to have some now.
Several cup of green tea, toasts with margarine or chocolate spread and a banana !
I add a little canned pumpkin to my oatmeal. While the oats and pumpkin are cooking, I chop an apple and a pear. I then pop the fruit into the microwave for a couple minutes. Next I chop a few dates and some walnuts. When the oats are done, I mix everything together and enjoy...Yum.
Breakfasts...fixed inbetween getting the family up and out for the chaotic "work" days... are usually an open-faced sandwich made with spam/cheese/egg on one slice of toast, served with seasonal fruit and juice or milk. (I save the coffee for the midmorning breaks when I have more time to enjoy)
And, since we sleep in on weekends, we have a brunch (ie. breakfast/lunch combo) which could be a creative mix of anything we might have on hand...and nutritious, of course.
Alexander1979 I have breakfast at 6:30 in the morning (duh) very early. What about some others?? What is your breakfast time??
OOh, OOh, another idea for next month's writing prompt, your job!! Or if you are a kid/ unemployed, what you want to be when you grow up/ your dream job
My husband and I are on weird schedules. I usually get up shortly before he gets home from work - which is usually around noon. I take my meds and have a cup of coffee, and then make supper (since it is his supper time when I get up). Sometimes we have breakfast foods for supper, though - like biscuits and gravy. When I am trying to be healthy, I like a whole grain waffle w/ a dab of (real) maple syrup, 2 pcs of turkey bacon, and grapes.
My typical breakfast is bread (jam and cheese), banana, dried prune, boiled egg, yogurt, soy milk :)
Oh, I adore this theme!
Often I start my day with oatmeal porridge on almond milk with chia seeds OR cottage cheese pie (very popular in Russia). And a cup of black coffee, of course :)
Plain strained yogurt with an apple. A treat would be waffles!
I don't think I have a typical breakfast as such. One morning it will be omelette with salami, another morning I'm opting for a tomato-basil sandwich. Two "rules" apply however: that the breakfast has to be savory and that I'll get my caffeine fix. My breakfast beverage of choice is most often black coffee, unsweetened of course ;)
I never make hot meals for breakfast, in the morning I am still in the startup mode and can produce sandwiches only. So I get my bread (not toast!) and my creativity goes to accessories: colourful pickles on the hard cheese, fresh tomato and chili/salt mix on the cottage cheese... And if I feel like spending a third of my pay on a sandwich I squash avocado on rye bread, coat it lightly in lime juice and sprinkle pomegranate seeds or coarsely ground pepper. OH!

I have pan de sal with white cheese made from water buffalo's milk; then down it with thick native chocolate drink.
Mine is
croissant with nutella
2 onigiri(rice ball)s and green tea
I'm enjoying reading your answers so much! They're all different and interesting :)
I tend to go for muesli with chocolate chips, soaked in soja milk with macchiato flavour. And a huge cup of strong coffee... or 2.
Always coffee first, then I try to make fresh juice every morning (apple, carrot, pear, peach, kale, strawberries, blueberries, ginger and turmeric and whatever else I might have in the house to juice). With that, I will have an English muffin with peanut butter on it. :)
I'm loving hearing what people eat for breakfast and I now have some new ideas. My regular is usually yogurt with fruit with a 1/4 cup of granola mixed in. If I have left over pizza, I'll have that instead (YUM). For a special treat, on a weekend, I love fried eggs over easy, crisp bacon, hash brown potatoes and English muffin.
A very interesting writing prompt! My usual breakfast is a yogurt or a cup of hot milk with biscuits or bread and jam.
It may sound strange for an Italian, but I hate coffee so I never drink it at breakfast ^_^
it is very nice to see what everyone likes!
sunshinecece,6:00 i have my breakfast and 5:00 on Saturdays.
I want to be a dancer sunshinecece
A couple of PoP~Tarts, hopefully still warm from the toaster, running for the Bus to get to work. LOL
I love this prompt! I would love to read what people like to eat for their breakfast. I hope I’ll remember to write it too! My favourite breakfast is sunny side up eggs with bacon on slightly toasted white bread (not specific at all right haha) 🍳🥓🍞. I don’t usually eat breakfast, I know it’s the most important meal of the day but I don’t always make the time.
Japanes food is healthy. We love to eat Miso soup with Tofu, boiled rice, fried egg with soy sause, and Japanese pickles.
Eggs most days. I like eggs with sauteed kale and some ham with a bit of hot sauce, salt and pepper. I always drink a hot chai when I first wake up and usually have my breakfast after getting the kids to school and doing some exercise. Then it's coffee with a bit of whole milk.
Black coffee, bread with butter and jam (selfmade) on it every morning at 7:00 just before going out for another working day. Without breakfast I don't leave my house even if I must get up early in the morning.
I just eat whatever my mom cooks for me every day haha. And I will drink a cup of chocolate drink in the morning before I headed to school! :)
And I was wondering why someone talking about his breakfast on my last postcard!? OK thats the reason....
I love the topic from this month. It make me hungry...mmmm
Thank you.
Since it was my suggestion, I guess I'd better fess up... So here is my breakfast: Every day: coffee, unsweetened applesauce with flaxmeal, natto (Japanese fermented soybeans) or yoghurt, 1 soft-boiled egg, miso soup, 1/2 banana, sliced radishes and cucumber. On weekends I make the egg into an omelet (with mushrooms and onions and chili sauce) and have some bacon, too.
I never had this on my profile before, it was just something I enjoyed answering when I saw it. But now I think I will put it there, because the answers are so interesting and give me ideas!
Nice idea! I will write the answer on my postcard! :D
Usually Water and maybe some noodles. Chips. Or a fruit cup.
I like breakfast with my husband: Muesli with natural yoghurt and fresh fruits, toast and sometimes eggs and as well a great cup of black coffee
I never eat breakfast o_O
love this writing prompt! i think my favourite breakfast item is probably donuts...... but, i also really like bagels, which are good. I'm also a fan of cereal.
Black coffee, a cup of fruit, some sort of pastry, and maybe a small omelette. I've never been a breakfast person, but I want to be!
I wonder how you actually implement such a writing prompt on a postcard. "Hello [name]! I have this and that for breakfast most days, but on weekends I will sometimes also .... Best wishes, [name]" Huh? I'd be so confused ...
What an amazing assortment of breakfasts! It's my main meal of the day, so its cereal, cooked egg or fish, followed by toast and English breakfast tea. And then a ton of pills (meds) ! I eat another full meal at lunch time, but at night its crackers, cheese & fruit - small portions. I follow the old saying: Breakfast like a King; lunch like a Prince and dine like a Pauper. Works for me.
We're all different!
Oh!What about for the next writing prompt your fave song
My breakfast is usually a frozen fruit smoothie with veggie protein powder along with a skim flat white (coffee).
glazed donuts are so yummy!
I see the Moussaka recipe and wonder if I sent it to you. ha ha ha I enjoyed reading about you. Have a wonderful day!
Hi, I usually make an Irish oatmeal with Chia seeds or berries and coconut manna for Breakfast. It's delicious). And of course a Cup of coffee with milk.
My favorite breakfast is bacon, egg, and cheese on a whole wheat bagel. I live in the New York City area, and our bagels are delicious! Sometimes, I'll switch it up and eat something else, though.
My favorite breakfast is sinangag (fried rice) with tomatoes and fried tuyo (dried fish) on the side served with a hot coffee 😍😍😍 Mmmmmmhhh. A staple Filipino breakfast :)
Favorite all time breakfast: French toast! To me, there's really nothing better! Generally, though, my breakfast is eggs (any and every way), or a bowl of cereal, or a vanilla protein shake blended with two big handfuls of lettuce/spring greens.
Yes, french toast sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar!
