It feels like 2021 has just been the never-ending continuation of the previous year, and I think we could all use a reason to smile and lift our spirits before the new year comes, right? So we’re pleased to announce the upcoming 9th edition of our yearly partnership with Deutsche Post, where postcards count for a good cause! Without further ado:
If you’re in Germany, you still have a few days to stock up on postcards and stamps, so that you can start writing postcards on December 1st! If the postcards you send throughout December are registered before the end of February 2022, you will be contributing to this cause and entering a draw to win some cool prizes! Seven lucky postcrossers (residents in Germany only) will be randomly selected to receive one of these:
- One voucher for the Marke Individuell Online Shop worth 100€.
- Three vouchers for the Marke Individuell Online Shop worth 50€ each.
- Three footballs, with Deutsche Post branding.
So by sending postcards from Germany in December, you’re not only helping a good cause, but can also win some custom stamps or maybe a football. Hurray! The more postcards you send, the more chances you have to win one of the prizes, and every postcard counts.
And although only postcards sent from Germany count, there’s always a recipient in every postcard exchange — so each time a card from Germany arrives to its destination, the recipient will be indirectly contributing to this donation too. Don’t forget to register your postcards promptly, so that more can be sent!
As usual, Paulo will run his random number generator in March next year, and we’ll reveal the total amount of postcards sent (and money raised to Stiftung Lesen) here in the blog. Last year, an amazing total of 11,729.40€ was raised for this good cause, which was brilliant (and a record)!
Stiftung Lesen is a German non-profit organization, working to increase literacy in the population, especially among children and adolescents. Their activities include reading clubs, media literacy projects and initiatives to promote the learning of German language by refugee families in the country.
We hope you’re as excited as we are for the 9th edition of the Cards for Literacy campaign, and may this be a brilliant month of helping others with our postcards!
P.S. – As always, we respect your personal information and will not share it with any company without your explicit permission. The full details of this campaign can be read here (German only).

GREAT!!! yesterday I sent 9 official cards to Germany, it's a shame that the received cards don't count as well! :D :D Go, Germany, go and break a new record!!! :D
Great I love Germany :)
95 slots are waiting for this action.
I'm ready to register your cards, go, and send, send, send :)
Great! I was waiting for this action.
As I was new to postcrossing last year I could send only 14 cards.
This year it will definitely be more than that!
The countdown is running .....
YES! =D Here we go again... Thank you very much Deutsche Post! Last years numbers really blew me away! But it´s not about breaking records here - every postcard counts and the good cause always wins in this game =) It is always nice to play a small part in it.
Yes, I waited for this announcement. :-) I am longing for the start. :-) @meiadeleite I guess it starts again December 1st, 0:00 German time and ends December 31st 24:00 German time, right?
Great initiative! I shall be looking forward to many cards from Germany!
(It's a shame sending to Germany doesn't count, as I have sent many recently)

I am really happy that this great event is continuing... I have saved 31 slots and hope that I will be able to write as many cards as possible despite the fact, that december is a month with a lot to do as work as well :-)
No need to stock cards or stamps - all is prepared and ready for the start!
Thanks to all postcrossers of other countries which are as eager to contribute as the Germans, as I read above - that is really great!
Yesssssss wonderful
Can't wait to start a again 😍
I love that you posted Minna's postcard of "snowy owls" in your article! Also glad to read about this wonderful program in Germany.
Yay! Love this initiative. Well done Deutsche Post, German postcrossers, and postcrossers around the world who will be registering the cards.
I can't wait for my favorite month and can't wait to send postcards to Germany and help this cause.
I am looking forward to registering many beautiful postcards from Germany over the coming months. This is a wonderful initiative and I am happy to see it continued again this year.
We will all be winners though this 😀
Stopped writing postcards in October, so all slots are free for this great project. Christmas cards, stickers and other kinds of decoration are bought.
Awesome, count me in! I will do my best and send as many as possible. Hurray!
What a pretty creative and awesome initiative. I will be waiting hopefully to receive and register some of those postcards from Germany!

I have already prepared for the 1st. Hope that the 3 still traveling postcards have arrived by the 1st, so that all my slots are open.
Please cross your fingers, that this years ever recipient will register the postcard asps. In the last years, I had unfortunately the one or other that didn’t do it, because she/he was away on holidays, business trips or simply forgot to register the postcard.
I have no free slot at the moment :-(
I didn´t know, that this initative is coming otherwise I would have kept some slots free. But now I hope that my travelling postcards will arrive and registered soon so that I can send as many as possible in december.
I can't wait.
I've saved some Slots for December and I'm glad that I will be able to send even more cards than last year.
Unfortunately one from last year is still travelling.
But that happens.
I am more than ready!
As last year I nearly forgot about this event. But fortunately I have some slots open, and the travelling cards will arrive soon. I am sure. Too bad that the German Postcrossing stamp isn't available yet. Wouldn't that be the perfect timing this event + the stamp?
Now I "fear" that Deutsche Post will think so as well, and keep us waiting for the stamp until end of 2022...
But what counts most - have fun sending and receiving postcards no matter what. Take care, stay healthy...
... I checked again, "the Stamp" will be out beginning of October 2020. finally :)
This is my first December with Postcrossing and haven't heard about it before but am so happy and grateful to read about this project!!
Sadly all 11 cards are travelling right now but fingers and toes are crossed for me being able to make some donations happen in December 🤞
29 slots free in my 2 accounts … forgot to keep them free for this action but they'll probably get free during the period.
@Kadima: The Postcrossing stamp is scheduled for 6th october 2022.

This is great, good luck German friends!
Starting with 53 open slots this year!
Yesssss!!! I was waiting for this announcement!
What a lovely idea for such an amazing cause! I'll be looking closely at my mailbox for postcards coming from Germany!
Go, Germans, go! Or better:
Write, Germans, write!!!
Excellent news! I hope our German friends will send lots of official postcards!
I so wish the Italian or the French posts launched a similar initiative...
This is a great initiative. I enjoy sending postcards anyway but this will make it even more fun.
Unfortunately I was not able to send a lot of cards last week. But this seems to be good for the donations in December. So a lot if cards will travel around the world from here for a really good cause.
I can't wait to receive cards from Germany. To bad that I can't win a price...but I'm healthy! That's my price.....
Time to break my hibernation and send some cards. :)
Will we see the count of postcards again? I hope so. I loved it. My first postcards are written, now waiting for scanning and will be dropped in the postbox before its next emptying time... :-) So glad to be part of this project again.
@nicetry1974: Thank you for sharing the flyer of Deutsche Post ;-)
Great! I´m happy to join this year again! :-)
A wonderful idea. Hope that all my cards are as fast as possible to get many possibilities to support the campaign.
Super Idee, ich mache mit :-)
> 3000 have arrived already, > 30.000 traveling in the post at the moment!
By raising the prices for delivery once again next year, like in many years before lately, the german post will get it all back from the German postcrossers.
Yes & Jawohl, I have some adresses to sent too in Travel Mode from Germany. I mail them after Christmas on a next visit.
The mark of 100,000 traveling and registered cards has been exceeded
76,866 arrived
69,899 on the way
Total 146,765
it is a new record!
😘
What a lovely thing! I didn't hear about it til now, in my December recap email, but I'm so proud of our German friends for all their hard work writing. Cheers!
Hurray - good chances to braek the record of last year - keep your fingers crossed, that most of the postcards will reach their destination! :-)
Congratulations to our German Postcrossing friends for their big success 🥳
I myself registered 5 cards received from Germany in December. However, 2 were received simultaneously on the afternoon of 31-Dec; and the Postcrossing clock ticked over to “1-Jan” between my registering the first and the second. So I owe you guys €0.10 😁
A great campaign. 👍
I did my best and sent a total of 24 postcards. 15 have already arrived. I would have liked to have more slots, but more than 12 of my cards were not allowed to be on the road at the same time.
I was allowed to pick up 318 addresses, sent 314 *, of which 184 are already registered
* 4 cards I couldn't send because users are afraid of registration
I send 16 postcards. 🙂
13 have aready arrived.
We made it! A new record already! > 117.330 postcards have arrived.
