The writing prompts are an ongoing experiment that invites postcrossers to write about a different topic on their postcards every month. These are just suggestions though — if you already know what you want to write about, or the recipient gives you some pointers, that’s great too.
Everyone has a few dreams that they’re aiming to accomplish in their lifetime, right? They can be big or small or even a little crazy. For some, their dream could be to climb a big mountain, or to visit a special country… or maybe meeting the Queen!
Following this line of thought, July’s writing prompt comes from a suggestion that Sprinkledonut left on a blog comment:
Personally, I’m a serial list-maker and have so many plans on my bucket list that I don’t even know where to start. I want to eat all the egg dishes in the world, knit a temperature scarf, sleep on a mountain hut, see some of the fantastic places featured on the postcards I’ve received… I could write about a different goal on every single postcard this month, and I don’t think I would run out of crazy ideas. 😜
Whatever your dreams may be, they’re special to you for a reason. So we invite you to share something your bucket list and inspire others this month!

Travel to England. I would also say Sky Divembut I have already completed that, along with Hot Air Ballooning. 👍🏻
what a beautiful list!!
To visit Antarctica
At age 70, bucket lists are important. I completed one this spring - seeing the tulips bloom in the Netherlands. Someday Barcelona, Portugal, St. Petersburg...and North Dakota (my last state:)
I wish to visit Topkapi Palace in Turkey and Bakchisaray Palace in Crimea.
I want to write all the books I still want to write,
Finish my two-week online course to improve my writing skills, help my little daughter with her summer school projects, hit my workout goal and participate in a race, start writing my book
Walk to Santiago de Compostela.
Sub-Goal:
Go to Germany, Netherlands, China, Japan, and England.
Goal:
Visit 75% of the countries in Europe.
And 75% of countries in Asia
Plus Canada, and the other states in America
I want to visit Canada and write the book of my dreams.
I`m only 15 so I have really big bucket list)) There are some of them:
1) visit as many countries as I can;
2) have conscious sleeps;
3) learn how to sing;
4) successfully finish my study;
5) get married;
6) ride the roller coaster;
7) have a child;
8) have as little as possible wrinkles;
9) go boating;
10) keep in touch with my family, classmates and friends even in old age.
This one is fun. I actually completed most of my bucket list items, so I have some new ones. Petting alpacas is one of them, and traveling the USA in a motor home checking states off my list is another.
I hit the big Seven Oh! this year and have done some on my bucket list like swimming with dolphins, snorkelled the Great Barrier Reef, been in a hot air balloon, seen Niagara and much more, but there's still riding Route 66 to do as well as the Trans Siberian Express, climbing down the Grand Canyon, swimming in the Red Sea, walking to Santiago da Compostela and finishing my fourth book which I MUST do before the end of this year!
huf...hard to imagine only 3)))There comes to a mind either one or hundreds) Well,
1. travell around the world all my life
2. collect big collection of postcards (ha-ha)
3. teach linguistics (my profession)
4. write books
5. sell my paintings and open an art school
6. have good beloved husband and children and live in a house with beautiful garden far from big smoky cities)))
I think I should stop)))
Yesterday I went skydiving which was on my list, but there still are a lot of things I want to do, such as:
1. making a road trip through France, Spain and Portugal
2. celebrate the Loi Krathong in Thailand and the Midsommar in Sweden
3. go riding in Iceland
4. having a picnic in a rowing boat
5. ride the Shosholoza Meyl train straight through South Africa
6. emigrate to another country
7. study philosophy
8. go backpacking for at least one month
9. travel on the Panamericana
10. ride a dog sled in Lapland
....and so on :)
First of all I want to be an artist , read a lot of books , explore the word and make some good friends ! ❤
So many nice goals here! I draft a new list every 1001 days or so — this is great inspiration for the next one. 😍
Meet more postcrossers online on pages like the Guardian ;)
(Seriously, were you on there in the comments a few days ago when they had an article about handwriting?)
My bucket list - uhm - no I take life as it comes, much as my postcards.
@franhunne I did leave a comment there! These articles about the tragic death of handwriting and/or mail are the usual silly season fillers... but if we can use them to spread the word a little, why not? 😉
I just love these little photos with the cute Playmobil postman!
In August, write about your favorite delicacy
Let's face it, a bucket list is something that changes from time to time. A young person has entirely different goals than an older one. For example, I remember seeing the movie The Endless Summer at age 10 and totally loving it. For many years, it was my all time favorite movie. It's about surfers traveling around the world looking for the perfect wave. I saw this movie again at age 40. A trip around the world still sounds like fun, but this film did not thrill me as much when I was an adult. At age 10, I had only traveled from my home in Illinois to Wisconsin to see my relatives up there once or twice a year. By the time that I was 40, I had traveled around the world and come home again many times. So it makes sense that a movie about travel around the world would not be as exciting as it was when I was a child.
In my case, I would not be surprised if my bucket list changed by next week. I'm always open to new experiences!
How nice idea. I'm sure I will write one but it would be really loooong!
We are dreaming to drive through the dessert of Nevada in an old cabriolet and stay in Las Vegas for a night...
Before I had no such list. Now I want to make a temperature scarf...what a great idea!
Thanks for the tip follow Canadian, "sprinkledonut" I love to make lists, specially the bucket one! I love to visit Singapore with my husband, so this one is on top of my list.
Travel to England!
Thank you for this ideas! It is nice. I have a lot of planes big, small and grazy, yes!!! For example I have one foto from the center of Lisbon with an old house in Alfama with pink panties outside the door as some flag. It looks so tenderly so innocente so funny. It is Lisbon. Ilike it. I would like to write some crazy story about it.
Such an amazing idea! I expect of this writing prompt inspitation, motivation and of course dozen of good examples how to spend the summertime funny😋
P.S. In August it would be nice to write smth that concerns the theme " How I was engaged in postcrossing".
I love this prompt! I've thankfully fulfilled many of my bucket list items (from visiting my ancestors' country of Hungary to recording a music album to publishing a book). I think my ultimate adventure at this point would be to see the Northern Lights.
I hate the term 'bucket list'. It suggests a list of items to be done and checked off. 'Become a good photographer', which is one of the items on my list of goals, cannot ever be checked off as 'done'; no matter how good you are, there's always something more that you can learn.
@poetess True, it's not a very good name... but that's what it's known as. I do a "101 things in 1001 days" and try my best to accomplish as many things as possible in that timeframe. After that, time to re-think the goals and re-do the list. :)
Bucket List? What for? After "that", it really starts!
I have only traveled outside the US once, to visit friends in Kingston, Ontario. I am afraid of heights and I hate flying. But I love boating! I would like to visit many countries on a cruise ship or private charter, and travel over land, especially to Europe.
想去西藏Tibet
i have a lot in bucket list, i want to travel around the world, try to play snow fight, and send many postcard for new firend around the world... :) :) :)
I want to visit Australia for our 20 year anniversary! :)
I consider bucket list items to be activities or experiences rather than ambitions or long term goals. Last year I took a joy ride in a seventy year old aircraft, and the pilot performed some aerobatic manoeuvres - something I have wanted to experience for a long time.
One thing I have never done, despite travelling a fair bit, is take a trip on a sail boat, and plan to do so later this year, a six day voyage on a 116 year old tall ship.
I want to hug and pet every dog I see!
I'm sooo stealing your plan to make a temperature scarf! That is one awesome project <3<3<3
I completed an item of my bucket list this year: wallrunning! It was as fun and exiting as I imagined :))
Cool!
Could you explain me what is a temperature scarf? I don´t understand it.
I liked to traveling to New Zealand, seeing as most beautiful castles/palaces as possible, skydiving and meeting someone to whom I can be together as long I live (I´m devorced)
@AnnniHaa A "temperature scarf" is a knitted scarf with 365 rows, in which each row represents the temperature on a specific day.
For instance you could make it so that if the day's temperature is between 15-20 C, you knit a green row; if it's between 20-25, you make it yellow, 30-25 is orange, etc. Knit one row each day according to the day's temperature, and at the end of the year, you have a tangible testimony of that year's temperatures. 🧣
Great Idea! #BucketListBe for july :)
Road trip in Scotland.
Well...my wish is to have visited all european countries in my lifetime. So I still have plenty years and countries to go. So far I've been in Austria, Belgium Czech Rep, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Luxemburg, Macedonia, Malta, Montenegro, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Serbia, Slovakia, Spain and Sweden. In september I'll be on a road trip in England. Love reading all wishes here....
I wish see the belgian football team to win the world championship of football.
Read all the books I bought.
Perfect watercolor painting
Jobineke and Marjie, I share your dream-goal! See you in Spain on the Camino!
1) To be as loving as I can to myself and others
2) To travel as much as I can
3) To finally become in the top 100 people, in USA, for postcards sent in Postcrossing
4) To continue to not have sugar in my diet
Travel to Europe for one month, and pretend I live there. Also, join the Red Cross or Salvation Army when I retire.
Today my bucket list boils down to getting a copy of the first postcrossing postcard getting and to know Greece and Italy.
The temperature scarf is a great idea! If I knew how to knit... Love it!
