Just in case you forgot… February 4th is Thank a Mailman Day! They’re the ladies and gentlemen who deliver all our postcards day after day, rain or shine, so they deserve our appreciation. If you’ve always wanted to do something nice for your mail carrier to thank them for all they do, next Thursday would be the perfect time to show your gratitude.
Here are some ideas of things you could do:
- Tape a colourful thank-you note on your mailbox.
- Leave some sweets or a goodie bag halfway into the mailbox slot, for them to pick up.
- If you enjoy baking, make some cookies — bonus points if the decorations are mail-themed!
- Any party is better with balloons and sparklers! :)
- If you’re at home, meet your mail carrier and say thank you in person, nothing beats voicing a heartfelt thank you.
- Use your crafty skills to make them a flag or a pin they can carry for the rest of their round!
As always, we’re actually quite curious about what you choose to do… Leave a comment with your plans, let’s plot this “conspiracy” together! :)

I'll be giving our mailman a couple pairs of cozy SmartWool socks. It can be really rainy and cold through the winter months in Oregon, and these will keep his feet comfy, warm and dry.
I look forward to treating my mail people, even the ones where I buy my stamps.
A good friend of ours is a mailman, sometimes in our block too. I'm going to send him a thank you card. By mail :-)
Hi Ana,
This post is perfect because I was thinking of how to thank the postman these few days. And I thought I would like to put thank you card in my mailbox and waited the receiver as our postman. However, my boyfriend said the postman might mist that and mix it with other postcards or letters and drive back to the office....I mean I started post-crossing about few months ago and my cards started to grow and I am so grateful that the postman come to our apartment and help us deliver our cards, letters, and packages.
I am going to buy many THANK YOU cards and either stick or give the card to the postman personally from next week because the postman come to our apartment is different. I am not sure it is different everyday or couple of days. But I will figure it out!
Thank you for the remind!

He loves the Thai peppers I grow in a pot in front of my home. I harvested the last of the season and gave them to him. And I reassured him there would be more late spring.
I will be leaving him a invitation to ring my bell and then give him in person a TY card !
On big holidays we leave a note with a little gift card inside for a local coffee house. It looks like we'll be doing one again soon! :D Thank you for letting me know about this.
I am a postman in Northern California, and I am humbled each Christmastime by the generosity my customers show me. This year I delivered 120 stamped thank-you cards to those kind folks! My dear friend Ping delivers so many smiles to me each day. I will have a hug and a gift for him on the 4th!
Blessings for all the Mail Carriers on our Good Earth!
I think I'm going to tape a baggy with sweets to my mailbox. The poor woman has to put up with my super nosy cat every time she brings us postcards xD
I live in a very bustling skyscraper, and haven't seen a single postperson so far. They are like Santa's invisible helpers. Perhaps I can attach a ''Thank you postperson!'' note on my postbox and leave some candies in my postbox for her/him to receive?
my postman is very hardworking. he would deliver even if it means delivering just one piece of postcard to me. i will send him some choco goodies to let him know that hes a great postman!
We bought a card that reads "Such a nice, colourful life" in German that we will put in an envelope and tape it to our postbox. We also tell her who we are and why we love Postcrossing so much as she asked us why we get so many nice cards the other day.
It is so hot here I dont know if I can leave any munchies out in the sun, I will leave a postcard though to say thanks
Today I will attach an envelope ( in a transparent plastic bag; it rains a lot) to my door above the mail-opening in my frontdoor. We have all part-time mailmen/women and I believe today it is a mailwoman that I have spoken just a few times, also about postcrossing, as she was wondering why I got so many cards! I have a card inside writing her thank you and I enclosed some different tea-sachets. I hope there is mail for me, otherwise she could overlook it because of the little garden.....
I celebrate Thank a Mailman Day every year with candy or cookie treats! Thanks for the reminder of other ways I can show my gratitude. xo
Done! This morning I left on my mail box a little bag with an handmade card and some chocolate! :) He was really surprised! :)
I wrote a simple thank you note and taped it to my door this morning. it was gone when I got home, hope it brightened the mailman's day :)
