Did you ever receive a postcard without a Postcard ID? Or perhaps one you couldn’t read completely? Perhaps you submitted your request for help, but you think you could find out who the sender was based on the clues written on the postcard?
Then put your detective hat on and come check our new feature: users search!
Now you can search for users by their username, or even just parts of it! You can filter by location, when they have last used their account, if they are interested in direct swaps, etc.
This has been, for a long time, a very requested feature and we are very happy to be able to provide it to you now. Your support and feedback has been very important to achieve this, so a big thank you to all Postcrossers!
Oh! And, as always, we like to hear from you, so go run some searches and let us know how you like it! Happy Postcrossing! :)

now time to try it...
...wow! it's amazing! i found all the people in my local town!
another genius feature :)
...ok this is too addictive - i'm gonna lose hours of my life to it :D
Woo hoo! This is fantastic!
Thank you Paulo for another great feature! :)
This is a great help, BUT, I'm still stuck on cards where I have just a first name. I can usually tell the country from the postmark and stamps and maybe even the city. But I still have no username.
for instance:
signed name: Natalia
from: Nizhny, Novgorod, Russia
any takers?
am I just missing how to do this and not get a super long list.
Yes, the old version was easier when you had a name, rather than a postcrossing id. You can get the same result in Google though, if you specify the site. I've just googled for "natalia novgorod russia site:www.postcrossing.com", which suggested Natalka_dzr. I don't know is she's the user you want though!
Thank you Paulo! :) I was hoping something like this would become available
Fantastic new tool! Thanks:):):)
WONDERFUL!!!
When I was inviting people to the Florida Postcrossing meet-up it took me forever to find people in Florida. This will help A LOT for the next one!
Thank you very much for this feature :D

Serena - looks possible. via a method I can't duplicate now I found a Natalia_L earlier today and sent her a pm - if it's not her I'll try this one. thanks.
9teen87 - I have no trouble searching states via
explore - countries - region (which fo USA gives state)
i know i talk too much... sorry :)
but i must say that my immediate thought was that, as people very rarely sign their postcards with their user name, why isn't there a search field for the sender's actual name?
I like the options in the new version of the user search.
I'd like to get these options too;
-a real name search (as britgirl says, postcards are usually signed with the real name)
-option to search for only males/females or all users
-search for contents in profile, for example when a person tells that (s)he has a turtle or like the Twilight books. Maybe (s)he has written that in her/his profile.
This is fantastic, I think it will be a great help. It is usually the ID I have trouble reading, not all numbers are easy to see.
This is really cool :D:D:D I agree with Norway_girl, most of us sign with our real names... I never write my nickname actually...
Thanks !!!!
I always include my username with the ID... i.e. US-123456 from Zmrzlina... and then sign with my real name. I love the search, though. It makes it so much easier to find people in specific locations.
Great work! Wow!
Curious me spent some time watching profiles from people from the same hometown as mine. Quiet a few. :D
It would be great, if, in the future, you could use this function to search for people who collect postcards like you (or who collect postcards you happen to have access to) so that you can arrange swaps based on those interest.
I like this feature, it is very useful to help me retrieve unknown IDs of some of the received cards. Thank you Postcrossing team! :)
Yes, I found out that it´s useful if you use your username on the postcard then the reciver can found you if the id is uncorrect. So my recommendation is ; use your username and if you like your real name.
You can still look for members through the Postcrossing Explore google search function. It helps when you have information that may be in a profile or a first name. A good article of using THAT search is at http://forum.postcrossing.com/viewthread.php?tid=39273
Well, according to the forum post about the google search, you should find my profile by entering ["from Norway" "or Cathrine"] in the search field. But this is the result of the search:
No standard web pages containing all your search terms were found.
Your search - "from Norway" "or Cathrine" - did not match any documents.
And I would still find it useful to combinate those two search functions in one!
What a great idea!
I'm happy!!! I solved a wrong-ID issue thanks to search! Some guessing was involved as well :P, but still... search played the main role! ;)
Keep it up!
