The writing prompts invite postcrossers to write about a different topic on their postcards’ messages every month. These are just suggestions though — if you already know what you want to write about, or the recipient gives you some pointers, that’s great too!
I write a lot about Wales, where my family come from and where I went to university, but this week’s theme allows me to give my current home a bit further north a little love. This time, the prompt is about where you live!
I recently got myself a bicycle to give myself a bit more range for travelling, meaning I’ve been able to go to the library a lot more frequently, run errands without needing my wife to drive me around, etc, etc. Which led to my discovery that my area has a lovely network of cycle paths! They start in convenient spots off the main roads and they’re well-maintained, which is already a lot better than I remember it being back when I lived in Cardiff, but they’re also objectively lovely places to be. The paths are surrounded by trees, and you can hear streams trickling past, hear the birds, and see squirrels scampering swiftly across the path. A bit of reading around told me that they’re actually intended as wildlife corridors, allowing animals to move around the urban landscape better by connecting up different parts of the landscape.
I didn’t know anything about the cycle paths before getting a bike, so it’s been lovely to explore and figure out where they all go. Sometimes I just pick one and follow it just for the fun of exploration!
Now it’s your turn! What do you love about the area you live in? I’m sure there’s something! You can talk about it in the comments here, or write about it on your postcards this month.

I love where I live because I can get almost anywhere using public transport! :)
I envy you, jimedusa. I have to use a car to go anywhere.
But I do have the Bashakill in my very near vicinity. It’s a wetland mecca for fauna and flora which I have had to enjoy with my children and dogs.
Plus in my own yard I feed and see chipmunks, turkeys, bears, deer, rabbits, woodchucks, birds. So, I guess, feel blessed.
Un abrazo muy fuerte a todos este día 1 de noviembre Día de todos los difuntos
A big hug to everyone on this November 1st, All Souls' Day.
Here in my country we are going through some very difficult days with the lady, we are missing many people after the floods, we are all heartbroken just seeing how they are going through it.Many families, apart from losing their relatives, lack water, food, electricity and very basic things.
Evagomez, I'm very sorry to hear about all the heartbreak from the flooding. Some of our friends are recovering from similar on the other side of the U.S.. Our media is all about our upcoming election (none of it helpful--I pay as little attention as possible). I'll now search online and read about what is happening in Spain. Thanks for the heads up.
I love where I live, because it's a very recent university district with very good free public transport connections. My workplace is just one train station away, which is very convenient. Nature isn't far away either, so I can go out in peace and quiet whenever I feel like it. Living in this area isn't cheap, but knowing that I have all the stores I need for everyday life within walking distance, it's well worth it. My country is very small, but its capital and its nature are very beautiful. Postcards and stamps from Luxembourg are appreciated, as they are rather rare in the world, given the size of the country. (Surface area: 2586 km2) An, no! I'm not interested in direct swaps. Only official Postcrossing in which I am a very new member.
Best wishes to you.
I can hike in wonderful oak and beech forests and use fresh, clear drinking water from the tap for drinking and bathing at any time.
Food and drugstore items can be bought in the many supermarkets and from local farmers. I can easily visit 8 UNESCO world heritage sites and many great works of art. Many castles and palaces are waiting for me to explore them.

I like my city, Cordoba, the only city in the world with 4 WHS. It is a quiet and safe city, its historic area is walkable, walking through incredible narrow cobblestone streets, with white-walled houses, wooden doors, lattice windows and bougainvillea and orange trees in the streets. In April the orange blossom blooms on the orange trees and the city smells great. I like my city.
Eastern Spain has suffered severe flooding, many people have lost their families, homes and businesses. All my support and love for them, we will help you!
I love where I live because we are on the coast. I enjoy fishing at the beach and at some of the inland waterways. It is very green here in North Carolina, even in the winter due to the large number of pine trees. The people are friendly, the winter is mild, and the Blue Ridge Mountains are a short drive from here. We have a diverse geography.
I will tell you shortly about the place where I used to live and came from, it's a great city called Baghdad, it was destroyes and rebuilt many times throughut the history since the Mongolian Hulago and Tamerlane invasions, Sassania & Ottoman invasions, British Invasion during WW1 and the Gulf Wars 1 & 2, I lived in a nice upscale multi-ethnicities Neighborhood and Had many bitter & sweet memories, Baghdad is difficult to navigate, traffic jams are everywhere but also public transportations and enjoying river Tigris.
That I can walk to my work. That I see the mountains everyday. That my city is green. Most people are very nice and welcoming. A lot of wildlife to discover. Next to San Francisco, my city Victoria BC in Canada housed a lot of good restaurants.
I love the place where I live now.....
I I love where I live. My house is in a beautiful village in a child-friendly residential area. Close to space to walk between the meadows or a few kilometers by car to a large nature reserve.
Evagómez I am very sorry for what happened in Valencia, I am from Catalonia, Spain and it saddens me to see everything that happened, I am very encouraged.
What I like about my city is that you can walk everywhere and that it is surrounded by inactive volcanoes and vegetation.
I love where I live because it's sunny most of the year and it's a combination of my two favourite things - the sea and mountains! The sea is right at my doorstep. The mountains are a short drive away and are visible from my house too. Also I am a cat lover the country I live in has more cats than humans.
I love where I live because literally EVERYTHING is close! The citycenter, but also a small forrest. Sportfacilities, but also a church, a bakery, some supermarkets, a lake. etc.etc. And soon the love of my life will be very close too since he is moving in with me Dec 15! <3
good idea
I love my hometown as its not too small and not too big ... Too small for a big town where the people don't know their next neighbours. It has a lovely historical centre with many old houses, a nice market-place with an historical fountain from 1879 and our town-hall from 1886. Otherwise it's too big for a village where each one knows the other in the village. I like to walk around in the streets with the old houses, looking for good views for interesting photos ...
Water and nature, cleanliness and peace.
I love my hometown Kumamoto City, Japan. In Kumamoto City, 100% of the city's tap water comes from groundwater of Mt. Aso, an active volcano. Beautiful countryside.
After living abroad for the better part of thirty years in eight different countries, my husband and I retired in an idyllic small village where people are very friendly and kind to each other. It is a more quiet lifestyle with plenty of time to appreciate the small pleasures that life has to offer: long walks on beautiful paths and trails, cooking healthy meals and baking our own bread, reading and writing in the various journals I hand make and still quite a bit of traveling to countries we have never visited before. Life is good.
