World Post Day 2018
October 9th is World Post Day!
The World Post Day is celebrated every year since 1969, on the anniversary of the founding of the UPU (Universal Postal Union), and commemorates all the hard work and social contributions of the postal services worldwide.
So across the world, post offices celebrate this special day in many different ways. This includes special philatelic exhibitions, free entrance in postal and communications museums, introducing new products and services, special cancellation marks, seminars, workshops and more!

These are the events taking place in 2018:
- Åland Islands

Åland Post is celebrating its national Stamp Day with a special cancellation mark. This is also the day on which they issue their Christmas stamps for the year, in an event that will include the presence of the stamp designer.
- Bermuda

Bermuda’s Post Office will launch a week of activities aiming to raise awareness of the postal sector’s contribution to the island.
- Belgium

BPost is joining the IPC social media challenge and offering prizes for the best postal-themed photos tagged with #ilovemypost.
- Finland

Posti is joining the IPC social media challenge and offering prizes for the best postal-themed photos tagged with #ilovemypost.
- Germany

A World Post Day cancellation mark will be available at Deutsche Post's Tower, between 9 and 16 October.
- Ghana

Ghana Post launched a Customer Service Week to celebrate World Post Day, in which directors of the company dedicated some of their time to serving customers at the counter.
- Greece

On the World Post Day, the Hellenic Post will distribute to all post offices in the country, specially designed anniversary postcards which will be given for free. Also, at five Metro stations in Athens there will be special postboxes, from which it will be possible to take and send for free of charge the special World Post Day postcard.

For a week, outgoing mail will feature a commemorative World Post Day-themed cancellation mark.
- Ireland

An Post is joining the IPC social media challenge and offering prizes for the best postal-themed photos tagged with #ilovemypost.
- Italy

The philatelic counters in Firenze, Roma, Torino, Genova, Trieste, Napoli, Milano, Verona and Venezia will have a special World Post Day cancellation marks.
The Communications Museum (Museo storico della comunicazione) will have free guided tours to visitors, by appointment.

Latvia Post is holding a Postcrossing meetup to celebrate World Post Day on October 5th.
- Portugal

The Portuguese Post will launch a new series of stamps celebrating the 500th anniversary of mail in Portugal, accompanied with a special cancellation mark in selected post offices.
Also, the Communications Museum has several workshops throughout the week for the younger crowds.
- Saint Kitts and Nevis

The Nevis Post Office launched a month of activities to celebrate World Post Day, geared towards increasing awareness, innovation and the implementation of new and improved services.
- Slovenia

A stamp exhibition by the philatelist Tone Petek in cooperation with Post of Slovenia, The Slovenian Philately Association and Philately and the Numismatic Club Celje will take place in the Post Office 1101 Ljubljana (Čopova 11, Ljubljana).

Correos is joining the IPC social media challenge and offering prizes for the best postal-themed photos tagged with #ilovemypost.
- Malaysia

Two new World Post Day themed stamps will be issued, as well as related philatelic products.
- Moldova

Posta Moldovei will put into circulation a special postmark decicated to the World Post Day. Additionaly they will put into circulation a FDC and a stamp to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the State Enterprise Posta Moldovei.
- Singapore

SingPost will have special cancellation marks available on the Philatelic Store (in the GPO) and also at the Philatelic Counter at Tanjong Pagar Post Office.
- Taiwan

Taiwan’s Postal Museum is celebrating with nightly activities, which include singing and lottery games.
- Thailand

A World Post Day themed stamp will be issued.
- Ukraine

Ukrainian Post is holding a National Philatelic Exhibition from 9 to 14 of October in Kyiv. During the exhibition they will celebrate 100 years of Ukrainian postage stamps.
